PerkNook

A little help for your perks

Before you start

Use Shopify's Online Store channel and a theme that supports app blocks and app embeds. The current release supports one-time purchases. Storefront offer widgets appear in your shop's base currency; they are hidden when a shopper uses another currency. Theme and cart layouts vary, so test your theme before making an offer available to shoppers.

Create your first offer

  1. In Shopify admin, open Apps, then PerkNook. Choose Quantity breaks, Mix & match, or Gift with purchase from the campaign page.
  2. Use Select products to choose active products and the exact variants to include. Enter the offer conditions and save the campaign. Review the preview using current product prices; missing product costs are shown as unknown.
  3. For a gift offer, select separate qualifying variants and gift choices. Use an available gift product published to your Online Store. The customer must choose a gift; reaching the threshold alone does not add one.
  4. Review the schedule. Times entered in the campaign editor are in UTC. Choose Activate offer when you are ready. If publication needs attention, follow the error message and use Synchronize saved campaigns.

Display offers in your theme

Campaign names are for your administration. Set an optional Storefront heading in each campaign to show your own wording to shoppers; leave it blank for a heading based on the offer type.

  1. Open PerkNook Settings and choose Manage gift panel, or go to Online Store, Themes, then open your theme editor.
  2. In App embeds, find PerkNook's Gift floating panel. Turn it on to show the floating gift widget, or off to hide it, then click Save.
  3. Open the product template used by your qualifying products. Choose Add block, then Apps, and add PerkNook's Product offers block near the product purchase controls. If Add block is unavailable, the selected theme section may not support app blocks.
  4. Save the theme. Repeat the product-block step for any other product templates that need offers. When you change or publish a different theme, check its app embed and blocks again.
  5. Visit a qualifying product as a shopper. Test quantities below and above each threshold, add a complete mix-and-match set, and choose a gift when eligible. Check the cart and Shopify checkout, then reduce the qualifying quantity and confirm that only the selected gift is removed.

The Gift floating panel switch only controls the floating widget. Turning it off does not remove gift offers from the separate Product offers block or pause active discounts.

Match the widgets to your store

Select Product offers or Gift floating panel in the theme editor. Follow theme uses the surrounding page colors and a native purchase button where available. Light and Dark provide neutral presets; Custom provides background, text, accent and corner settings. Preview both blocks on desktop and mobile, then save. Themes vary, so use a preset or Custom if automatic matching does not suit your theme.

Quantity tiers describe the eligible quantity in your cart after adding your selection; they do not guarantee the final discount when offers overlap. Shopify confirms the final savings in the cart and at checkout. When the gift panel is available, the product block opens that same gift selector instead of showing a second full form.

An offer is not showing

Check that the campaign is Active, its schedule has started, the selected products are active and published to your Online Store, and the cart meets its conditions. Confirm that you saved the theme changes and are viewing the correct product template in your shop's base currency. Subscription purchases do not qualify. Your current plan also determines which offer types and how many active campaigns are available.

Promotion guide

Existing shops keep their original rules until they explicitly apply the upgrade from Promotion guide in the app. That page shows the rules your shop currently uses. The following describes the shared priority rules.

Quantity breaks

One tier across remaining eligible units.

Mix & match

Complete sets, with any remainder kept available.

Gift with purchase

One chosen gift per winning offer per cart.

Under shared rules, quantity and mix offers share priority; each purchased unit gets one purchase discount at most. Gifts use separate stacking rules. Open a topic for conditions, examples and exceptions.

9 topics · Shared priority rules
1. Quantity breaksCount selected variants together and apply one qualifying tier.

Select the exact variants that count. Quantities add up across all selected variants, even when they belong to different products. Unselected variants do not count.

Selecting one variant is enough: buying two or three units of that variant can meet a tier. The selection count shows how many variants are eligible, not how many units a shopper must buy.

After earlier purchase offers have used their units, PerkNook chooses the tier with the highest minimum quantity that the remaining eligible units meet. That single tier applies to every remaining eligible unit. Tiers are not added together or applied in separate quantity bands.

Example

Buy 2+ for 10% off; buy 3+ for 15% off. Three eligible items at $10 each cost $25.50. Four cost $34.00. The first two items do not keep the 10% tier.

  • Use 1–10 tiers with unique, increasing minimum quantities from 2 to 1,000.
  • Each tier can use a percentage (0.01%–100%) or a fixed amount off each item. For example, $3 off each of four items saves $12, capped at each item's price.
  • The highest quantity tier is not necessarily the largest discount. Set your tier values deliberately: PerkNook does not choose a lower tier because it would save more.
  • Below the first tier, this offer applies no discount and reserves no units. Later offers can still qualify.
2. Mix & matchBuild complete sets, allow or prevent repeated variants, and discount each set.

Choose eligible variants, a set size of 2–100 items, and a percentage or fixed amount off each item in a complete set. This is a per-item discount, not a fixed total price for the bundle.

  • Allow repeats: one variant can appear several times in a set. A three-item set can be A + A + A or A + A + B.
  • Prevent repeats: every item in one set must be a different variant. Different sizes or colors of the same product count as different variants. The same variant can appear again in another set.
  • Every complete set qualifies. With repeats allowed, seven eligible units and a set size of three make two discounted sets plus one remaining unit.
  • With repeats off and a set size of three, A×2 + B×2 + C×2 makes two sets; A×4 + B×1 + C×1 makes only one.
  • Only units left by earlier purchase offers can form sets. Incomplete remainders can qualify for later offers, using only their remaining quantity.

The storefront builder helps shoppers add a set. Calculation uses the whole eligible cart, including items added normally; the builder does not reserve a separate bundle. Allocation is deterministic, not a highest-price, lowest-price or greatest-savings search. Avoid relying on a specific item being left over when eligible prices differ.

Example

Seven $10 items, repeats allowed, set size 3, 20% off: six items cost $48 and the remaining item costs $10, for $58 before any later offer.

3. Gift with purchaseQualify by quantity or subtotal, then choose one gift per winning offer.

Choose a qualifying purchase pool and a separate gift-choice pool. Within the same offer, a variant cannot belong to both. Different variants of one product may be in different pools.

  • Quantity threshold: add the purchased quantities of selected qualifying variants. The minimum can be 1–1,000.
  • Subtotal threshold: add only those qualifying items' current line values before discounts. This is not the entire cart total. Marked gifts and subscription purchases do not count. Shipping and separately calculated taxes are not added; any tax already included in a product's price is not stripped out.
  • A purchased item can receive a quantity or mix discount and still count toward a gift threshold at its pre-discount value.
  • Each winning offer allows one gift per cart. Reaching twice the threshold does not grant two gifts. Multiple gift choices mean choose one, not receive all. This is a per-cart limit, not a once-per-customer or lifetime limit.
  • Reaching the threshold does not add a gift automatically. The shopper chooses and claims an available gift. Claiming is optional; PerkNook does not substitute cash or credit when no gift is claimed.
  • If several winning offers use the same gift variant, each offer can grant its own separately marked gift. An ordinary paid copy of that variant is not automatically converted into a gift.
Example

Spend $100 on selected products and choose one pouch. $120 of qualifying purchases still qualifies after a 20% purchase discount reduces the payable amount to $96. Spending $240 still grants one pouch from this offer.

Gift card rewards use Shopify fulfillment. Shoppers can claim a selected Shopify gift-card product as a free gift when they qualify. PerkNook applies the gift discount; Shopify manages the balance and redemption code and sends the gift-card email after the gift card line is fulfilled. Check your payment, gift-card fulfillment and notification settings, and test delivery before launching. PerkNook does not fulfill orders, generate codes or send gift-card delivery emails.

4. Purchase discounts: one shared priorityQuantity and mix offers share units; they do not discount the same unit twice.

Quantity breaks and mix & match share one queue across both types. Higher priorities run first. Each purchased unit can receive at most one PerkNook purchase discount. There is no stackable switch for these two types.

Multiple campaigns may be Active and list the same variant. Each cart is evaluated in order: an eligible offer uses the units it discounts, then the next offer considers what remains. An offer that misses its threshold uses nothing. Separate variants can receive separate discounts; units of one variant can also be split between offers when an earlier mix offer leaves a remainder.

Order changes the result

Five items at $10 each; both offers use the same eligible variants. Mix offer: 3 items, repeats allowed, 20% off. Quantity offer: 2+ items, 10% off.

  • Mix first: three items cost $24; the remaining two get 10% off and cost $18. Total: $42.
  • Quantity first: all five get 10% off. No units remain for the mix offer. Total: $45.

Priority expresses the merchant's intended order. It does not guarantee the lowest cart total. Discounts never reduce an allocated item below zero; rounding follows the currency's precision at line allocation, so a rounded per-item display can differ from a final multi-item line by a small amount.

5. Gift stacking and priority conflictsStackable gifts can coexist; overlapping priority-based gifts compete.

Stackable: every qualifying stackable offer can grant one gift. Priority does not affect whether its gift qualifies, and the editor hides that field. It does not block other gift offers.

Priority-based (not stackable): qualifying offers are checked in priority order. An offer loses if any of its purchased qualifying variants is already used by a winning priority-based gift offer. Only actual qualifying variants in the cart matter, not merely overlap in the saved product selections.

When A, B and C all meet their thresholds and B/C share qualifying variants
OfferSettingResult
AStackableOne gift
BPriority-based · 6One gift
CPriority-based · 5No gift
  • Stackable gifts can still apply alongside priority-based winners. “Not stackable” only governs competition with other overlapping priority-based gift offers.
  • Two priority-based offers using separate purchased qualifying variants can both win. A shared gift choice alone does not create a conflict.
  • Conflict is based on qualifying variant overlap, not how many units are available. Buying more of the same variant does not split it between two conflicting priority-based gift offers.
  • An offer below its threshold blocks nothing. A losing offer also blocks nothing: if B(6) uses X, C(5) uses X and Y, and D(4) uses Y, all qualify, then B and D win and C loses.
  • Winners are chosen before looking at claims or gift availability. A winning offer still blocks lower-priority overlapping offers when its gift is unclaimed or unavailable. There is no automatic fallback.
  • Gift priority is separate from purchase-discount priority. The same purchase can qualify for a purchase discount and gifts; marked gifts do not help earn another gift or purchase discount.
6. Equal prioritiesHigher number first, then earlier creation time, then stable campaign ID.

Priority is an integer from 0 to 100. Leave it at 0 when you do not need to choose between overlapping offers. For both the shared purchase queue and competing priority-based gifts:

  1. Higher priority runs first.
  2. At the same priority, the campaign created earlier runs first.
  3. If creation times are identical, stable campaign ID order breaks the tie.

Editing, pausing or resuming does not change creation time. Duplicating creates a new campaign with a new creation time. The rule does not use last edit, last activation, list order or greatest savings. Stackable gifts do not need a tie-breaker.

7. Product availability, gifts and checkoutUnderstand inventory references and keep claimed gifts free and valid.

The editor shows Shopify-reported online inventory as a reference. Hover over the quantity for total inventory and more detail. Inventory does not guarantee purchase; markets and shipping restrictions still apply. Use View product and Shipping settings to investigate, then Refresh inventory. Test the product in your storefront for the customer's country. Untracked inventory and products set to continue selling are not treated as sold out just because stock is zero.

In the storefront, PerkNook also checks the current store's product availability before adding quantity offers, bundles or gifts. Confirmed unavailable options cannot be selected; a failed availability check is not a sold-out result. Customer location, shipping restrictions and changing stock can still affect purchase. Shopify validates the actual cart request and checkout.

  • Before activation, selected products must be active and at least one gift choice must be available on the Online Store. An unavailable choice cannot be claimed. Claiming does not reserve inventory; Shopify checks availability when adding and checking out.
  • A new-purchase availability check does not by itself remove items already in the cart. After a failed add, PerkNook refreshes the actual cart because Shopify may have added part of the requested quantity.
  • Changing purchases recalculates thresholds and winners. The storefront removes a marked gift from a losing or unqualified offer; excess quantities may be reduced to one, and duplicate gifts for an offer are removed. Ordinary paid copies are preserved.
  • If a different offer becomes eligible, the shopper must choose its gift. PerkNook does not silently replace a removed gift with another one.
  • If a cart update fails, retry or remove the affected gift before checkout. A marked gift that is not free, exceeds one unit, or duplicates a claim for the same offer is blocked by checkout validation.
  • Eligibility is determined when discounts are calculated. Checkout protection checks the final gift price, quantity and duplicate claims; it does not independently recalculate the campaign rules. Shopify checkout is the final price authority.

PerkNook does not combine with other product or order discounts. Shipping discounts may combine. If Shopify chooses a competing discount and a claimed gift is no longer free, remove it or return to the cart to reselect an eligible gift.

8. Save, activate, schedule and manage offersA membership count or Active label does not guarantee a discount on every cart.
  1. Select exact variants, enter the rules, and save a draft. Saving alone does not publish it.
  2. Review the saved preview, then activate. Active campaigns must be paused before editing. Save changes and resume when ready.
  3. Use UTC start and end times. A blank start begins on activation; a blank end runs until paused. The start is inclusive and the end is exclusive. An enabled future offer displays Scheduled; an ended offer displays Expired. A schedule never activates a draft or paused offer by itself.
  4. Start and end boundaries must not fall in a repeated local hour when daylight saving time ends in your shop time zone. PerkNook rejects these ambiguous boundaries. Choose a time outside the repeated hour. After changing your Shopify time zone, synchronize saved offers; the background check also detects changed schedule conversions. An existing ambiguous schedule is paused for correction.
  5. Duplicate to make a new draft. Archive a draft or paused offer; restore it as a draft. Permanent deletion is available only after archiving.

Published schedules are checked by Shopify. A campaign must be enabled, within schedule, and match the cart's conditions to apply. Paused, draft and archived campaigns do not apply. Scheduled and expired campaigns still occupy an enabled-campaign slot until paused.

The Eligible products count lists other saved campaigns for that exact variant. It excludes the current campaign and archived campaigns, and includes drafts, paused, scheduled and expired offers with their status. A gift offer counts only if the variant is a qualifying purchase, not just a gift choice. Hover, focus or tap for names and types. It is a membership count, not a count of discounts that will apply together.

If publication fails or the app reports an unsynchronized state, follow the error and synchronize saved campaigns. A saved edit is not proof that Shopify has received the change.

9. Storefront, currency, previews and limitsWhere offers appear, what previews estimate, and the current release scope.
  • Storefront: use the Online Store with a compatible theme. Enable PerkNook's Gift floating panel for a floating gift widget and add Product offers to each relevant product template, then save the theme. Recheck after changing themes. Theme-editor setup placeholders are hidden from shoppers. Hiding a widget does not pause its discount.
  • Product offer cards: one purchase offer is recommended, with other quantity and mix & match options under Other offers. The recommendation follows offer priority, preferring an offer whose own threshold is met by the current cart. It does not confirm a discount or choose the largest saving. Other offers may apply to different items or remaining quantities. Gift offers appear last; a priority-based gift blocked by another qualifying gift is hidden. Unmet gift thresholds still show progress. Cart and checkout prices confirm the actual discounts.
  • One-time purchases: subscription purchases are excluded from all three promotions, including claimed gifts. Marked gifts are excluded from purchase-discount and gift-threshold calculations.
  • Shop currency field: PerkNook reads your Shopify shop currency when you create an offer. It is read-only in the editor. Existing offers keep their saved currency and amounts. If you change the shop currency, pause the old offers and create replacements in the new currency; editing and publishing a mismatched offer is blocked. Amounts are not silently converted.
  • Prices and currency: calculations use current cart prices, not compare-at prices. Configure fixed per-item discounts and gift spend thresholds in the shop currency. Storefront widgets display only the base shop currency and are hidden in other currencies. Checkout converts fixed discounts and spend thresholds using Shopify's presentment rate; this does not provide a localized gift picker.
  • Preview scope: the saved preview generates a sample cart for your offer using current catalog prices and available costs. You can add or remove eligible items, change product variants or the gift choice, and edit quantities, prices and optional costs. It does not check every product or possible cart. The selected offer is simulated even when it is draft, paused or expired, together with other currently live offers. Upgrade comparisons use explicitly labeled sample prices and costs. Neither preview activates offers nor reserves inventory.
  • Preview amounts: Before discounts includes the sample gift's original price; Shopper saves includes its free-gift reduction. Gross profit subtracts known costs of purchased items and claimed gifts. Any missing cost makes it unknown. Shipping, separately calculated taxes, payment fees, advertising, currency conversion and external discounts are excluded; this is not net profit.
  • Selection and capacity: up to 100 exact variants per selection pool and 100 saved campaigns per shop, including archived ones. At most 10 campaigns can be enabled, subject to your plan. Free permits one quantity offer; Standard permits all three types and up to five; Growth permits all three types and up to ten. Verified development stores have all three types and ten slots. Drafts and paused campaigns do not use enabled slots. Very large combined selections may need reduction to fit Shopify's configuration limit.
  • Release scope: PerkNook does not provide fixed-total-price bundles, order fulfillment, gift-card code generation, POS, headless storefronts or subscription promotions. Test your theme, cart and checkout, including quantities below and above thresholds.

A gift asks to be removed

The cart may no longer qualify, the offer may have ended, or Shopify may have selected a competing discount. Return to the cart, remove the gift, and choose an available gift again if your cart qualifies. If the cart cannot refresh, use Retry or remove the gift before continuing. PerkNook's checkout validation blocks a marked gift when its price is not zero, its quantity exceeds one, or it duplicates another gift for the same offer.

Pause, edit or remove an offer

Open the campaign and choose Pause offer before editing its rules. Save your changes, review the preview, then choose Resume offer. You can archive a paused or draft campaign and delete it from the archived campaign page. Pause active campaigns before removing their storefront widgets or uninstalling the app. To remove the widgets, remove PerkNook's product blocks and turn off Gift floating panel in the theme editor, then save. Hiding a widget alone does not pause its discount.
